learn how to blow glass
It's as addictive as crack.

You can either learn to put up with the 2300 degree heat or you can’t. For those who can, blowing glass is almost better than sex. I’ve been doing it for three years now, and it is completely my life’s passion.

glass blowing

Hey just wondering how you got started – I want to go into glass blowing as a career but I don’t know where to start or if I can make a living off of it. Thanks

Glass is expensive

I discovered glass at Cleveland Institute of Art where I took a 12-week elective class, but it was a bit too pricey for me to keep doing. So in 2002, I moved to Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Glass Center. It’s an amazing facility in a strange city. There are only 3 people who are able to live off their glass here in Pittsburgh. I’m not one of them. I work at the PGC to help my glass addiction, and I am able to work and still have my glass in galleries. It usually costs about $50 an hour to rent. Yikes. If you’re super-determined, you can live off your glass, but it’s pretty tough. But don’t let that stop you from trying… lord knows I’m going to keep on trying. Good luck!
