SMART08 - questionnaire

Thinking about getting more data, the idea of a quuestionnaire seems apt. I tried this in year1 report2 with some success, and it doesn’t take too much time to effect. Rather than ask for volunteers and then send them individual questionnaires this time I think I would just post it to the mailling list and gather up any public or private responses.

Plan

1) design some questions, draft the email.

eg Had you ever heard of a wiki before?
what do you think of the idea
Have you looked at it – if so how many pages?
have you made an edit yet?
if not yet – do you think you would ever edit it to make a correction or add some useful information perhaps?
Any suggestions
etc

2) Peer review, or prototype to make sure it makes sense.
3) choose a date – around March 1st.

The timing needs to allow for a fair number of people to have already looked at the wiki, but allow enough time to wait for responses and consider them in time for module due date.

4) Collect data and consider what it means

The Questionnaire will not be merely collecting data, but actively publicising and explaining the wiki, thus adding to the “Action” not just the enquiry.

SMART 08 Questionnaire

Just a thought – you could trial the questionnaire on Ultrastudents first asking about the UV wiki – might help to polish some of the questions? Depends on your timescale of course …

Nice one

That’s an excellent idea Eve, I’ll bring it forward to next week – pure synergy. Thanks.

SMART08 prototype questionnaire

I had a few notes that I jotted down on Saturday in the Fire Station pub near Waterloo, then at lunch time today I finished it off and sent the prototype questionnaire in to ultrastudents. 5 useful replies so far already.

My initial reactions are

1) Help! what am I going to do with all this information.

2) I’m pleased with the response. Some of it will help to hone the questionnaire, I feel a bit like I’ve grabbed more than my share of peer review by doing this.

3) One of the explicit objectives is to publicise the Ultraversity Wiki so I’m glad that’s happened. There will certainly be suggested changes that can be tried as another cycle of the AE there. I like the idea which has arisen of a “jokes and puzzles” page

4) Not sure how much of this is going to be transferable to the ukcider wiki questionnaire, but going through the process must help. Further analysis will probably reveal more clearly which problems with the questions need to be attended to. Only I can decide which to take on board and which are ultraversity specific.

Long time no write

Sorry I haven’t been in here Andy- I’ve been looking on NetNewsWire everyday but there’s been nothing for ages, then today, I had a whole lot come through, some I’d already read. Not sure what’s going on there! It looks like you’ve made the first post since Feb 14th on Tuesday, so I’m hoping I haven’t missed too much.

Not that you need me here for advice…looks as though you have it sorted. It’s good to follow your progress though.

SMART08-1 analyse prototype feedback

I had 9 very different responses, mostly about the Ultraversity Wiki but also some meta-feedback on the questionnaire process itself. So now I have only 1 day left in which to:

  • Copy response data to DW files
  • edit and format so that individual questions and answers can be compared
  • Seperate the topic data from the meta-data
  • focus on the meta-data for reflection, but bear in mind how fruitfully the process produced topic data as well.
  • use conclusions to design the questionnaire for ukcider
