decide what the hell I would like to do with the rest of my life (read all 8 entries…)

Worth doing!

I'm at a bit of a standstill  — 1 year ago

I have such varied interests and I’m finding it really hard to settle on one thing.
A part of me really wants to go into film. I’ve been told that I’m good at writing screenplays, and I’m worried that when I’m 80 I’ll regret it if I never gave it a shot.
On the other hand, I’d really like a stable career. I want to have a family and be able to provide for them without worrying where my next paycheck is going to come from. My current thoughts are that I’ll pursue a stable career, and write screenplays on the side as a hobby. This will satisfy both my needs :)
I’d really like to work with people. I’ve thought of being a teacher, a psychologist, a psychiatric nurse, or a psychiatrist. I’m taking a couple courses this spring that will enable me to apply to the PDP program (teachers college), and would also satisfy some requirements for the psychiatric nurse program. Hopefully I’ll start to narrow my focus a bit.

Having so many interests is fun!

Hi brighteyes82:

Regretting going into writing screenplays would be hard if this was your ultimate passion in life and you choose a more stable career for yourself. However, if the screenplays are just something you would like to do, and you are not so passionate about it then, I do not think you would regret this.

The main thing is what do you value for doing as life’s work, what do you love to do with yoru life? That’s the question you have to ask yourself. Do you love writing screenplays, or do you want to be a psyhciatric nurse? or a teacher and work with children more than screenplays? do you value money more than a carrer and jsut want to make as much money as you can and do anything to do this?

I know it’s very hard to decide right now and maybe it’s too overhwelming. One women SARK choose and worked at over 200 jobs before she became an author and artist and creator of her own unique writing style. One book that always helped me was What Color is Your Parachute?

and offers a chance for you to see what career choices you might be good at based on your own unique talents.

or maybe you should make a list and examine your choices one by one and check off the pros and cons of each career choice. Whatever the choice, it’s one you have to decide to make. Good luck.
