Since I last made an entry, I have accomplished this goal. It took getting myself certified for a service animal so the landlord would allow him, but I got Roscoe about six weeks ago. He is a pitbull/whippet mix (you know some whippet owner was not happy about that!). I met him at the shelter where I volunteer months ago and we became buddies. He was there for several months, then got adopted. I was happy to see him find a home, but then the people who adopted him moved off and left him. He was alone in the yard for a couple of weeks, with the neighbors feeding him. Fortunately, he has a microchip - everyone get your dogs microchipped! - so he came back to the shelter and I adopted him.

that shelter
I wonder if they should change their interview policy for prospective owners? How could those people who adopted Roscoe before you did, get away with leaving him behind when they moved? That is just cowardly behaviour. They should be left in the yard eating scraps for a few days to show them what it’s like. Plus, dogs need to have a pack of some sort. It is horrible for them to be alone. Kudos for you for arranging to get and keep Roscoe. I hope you have as long and happy a time together as we did with our Lab Uma.
Sorry for the "drive by" comment
Hi there! I came across this post when I googled “pitbull whippet mix”, and after I noticed you lived in Seattle, I thought I’d write you a quick note.
I, too, have what I believe to be a pitbull/whippet mix. Parker turned approximately three years old this past August. She came to me, when I worked at a vet hospital, as an abandoned puppy who had turned up in a client’s fenced backyard. Being the breed I thought she was, with untreated bite wounds on her legs and ears, and probability of being adopted to a forever, wonderful home, I decided to foster her myself. Long story short, I fell in love, and she’s been a huge part of my life for three years now.
I was wondering what shelter you adopted Roscoe from, or if you knew where he originally came from. I was working in Federal Way at the time. It’s not a very common mix. I’d love to see pictures of your guy! Here is a picture of Parker. I’d love to share more!
