Daily reflect on at least 3 things that make me happy (read all 20 entries…)

10 things for the weekend at Duck Pond Cottage:

1. complete silence at night – not even the distant sound of traffic, or a night bird. just the occasional “dink” of an acorn from the massive oak tree over the cottage landing on the iron roof.

2. no internet, phone, tv, radio

3. reading on the grass in the sun and falling asleep.

4. picking apples in an orchard

5. rowing on the pond with Raph, and watching him master the oars (he did good!)

6. the smells of an African farm – dry earth, pine and oak trees, marshland, heat, fire.

7. watching a windmill turn against an impossibly bolue sky.

8. Braaing

9. early morning walk with Raph and his new friend, Stoffel (the farm dog).

10 sunset seen from the koppie, with the impressive Matroosberg mountains turning pink.

heh

Braaing: Cooking meat on a fire, basically. So yes like a Barbie but we have real meat not those funny pink sausages – bangers or whatever you call them. We have great big slabs of steak or juicy chops. also there should be salad.

a real SA braai involves men by the fire with beer, women in the kitchen gossiping and making salad or buttering roles.

being a single mom braaing for us involves raph and i making the fire, raph trying to burn down the house (or in this case the farm, thankfully the farmer stopped him in time), me cooking the meat and making the salad, and beer.

i spent a lot of my childhood holidays

on farms as my sister worked on some around the country. i would spend hours alone wandering about with dogs.

it was great to see Raph not getting bored once, even though he potted around alone for hours on end.

yes, braai = bbq

Gypsy is without internet right now, but I'll be back in a day or two I hope

What a beautiful weekend

Makes you feel lucky to be alive doesn’t it?

RUNRGRL is trying to fix what has become broken needs to either let 43 things go or get back into it

Moments like these

Are what make up the best part of living, good on you for treasuring them so much and giving Raph these moments to remember and reflect. Sounds like a good weekend for the soul. Perfection.

Where do I sign up for my holiday?!! :)

As this sounds like a peaceful paradise for which I think I would very much like! :)
I am glad you got to share this time with your very cute Raph, I am sure he will look back on this fondly for years to come, as will you as well.

Faith has gotten 7 cheers on this entry.
