This might be the most difficult part of the goal, as I’m not sure what resources will be available. But it should also be a very satisfying accomplishment.

Probably it would be best to try an Native American language, as the likelihood of finding speakers within a reasonable travel distance, maybe even native ones, would be higher.

Lakota Sioux seems to have several thousand speakers.
