find the perfect travel partner
Traveling to France Gorilla Style 2 years ago

I was thinking that for a first travel experiance, I would like to travel to France (not my top choice for a destination, but I figure as a first-timer I should pick someplace visitor friendly). The time of the year I want to go is almost infinantly flexible, I don’t have any place specific as of yet in France that I would like to go-preferably a faster paced, populated area as apposed to flat out rural. I would like to go on approx. a month long trip, getting to know the people, and the language, make some friends along the way-that sort of thing, and I want to do it all dirt cheep. I’ve recently discovered stand-by flying as an option, where you can get a two way open ended ticket to and from France for around $500. Then I would like to find a way either through Woofing, or some other nifty travel network to get by for a month once I get there on less than $300. This is a big BIG and potentialy life changing thing I want to create for myself, but as a first time international traveler, I would really like to find somebody from the US or Canada with similar goals to have a great time in France with!

All that said quite clumsily, is anybody interested in joining me and trying to make something happen?

France :)

Im seriously hoping you’re still looking for a traveling partner!! My name is Emma and I live in Colorado. I’m 20 years old and im totally looking for an adventure. I registered on this website in hopes to find someone as laid back and as easy going as I am. As for my preference on places to travel… I’m so open. France sounds great. I’m willing to hop on a plane, arrive, and then just go with the flow and see where that leads me. Are you interested at all?? You are the first person I have found that meets all the requirements I want in a traveling partner. I feel really good about this for some reason. Anyway, hope to hear from you soon!! By the way, I want to spend as little money as possible.

Oh goodness, this is wonderful! You’re also the first person I’ve gotten a response from that seems like we might be able to get along. I’m defiantly not set on France either; it just seemed like a convenient place to start. I’m really most interested in Scandinavian countries such as Iceland, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, etc. (not as much in Sweden, but I wouldn’t have any qualms going there if the opportunity came about). Then next on my priority list would be the rough and tough Slavic countries, such as Russia, Czech republic, Romania, Lusitanian, Germany. Then comes the romantic countries, France Italia, Greece, and Spain.

What would you be interested in doing if we were to pick a country to go to together? Personally, I’m almost appalled at the thought of joining a tour group. I’m much more interested in finding host homes, spending time with the families I’d stay with, make friends in the cities, and find some hot warrior (glam) parties along the way. I’m far more into the city life (having been a city kid my whole life), but I’m also really into the whole organic farming scene. Woofing could be a great way to get around, if you’re into that sort of thing. I think it could be really amazing. If you are the sort who gets really pumped at staying out in the wilderness for weeks at a time, I’m totally into that too, as long as we get some city time in too.

I don’t know, I’m sort of going on and on without thinking. I’m just excited that somebody promising has finally responded to me. I really really, really want to make something happen. I just haven’t figured out where, what, when, how long, and with who. So I’ve just figured that if I can get the “with who” squared away, then the rest will just fall into place.

Why don’t you just start by telling me what you’re interested in (generally), where you are most interested in going, what you want to get out of going there, and how long you think you could realistically stay around what time of year? Yes, that’s a good start.

Just cheering!

I would love to go and live in France, but since that dream hasn’t worked out yet (and my loved ones are getting nervous about me not working) it’s time to buckle down, get a job around here for a bit, yet never forget my dream. Note to self: ALWAYS REMEMBER THERE IS MAGIC. meanwhile I can work on my French and make some money.

I really wish you guys A LOT of fun.

By the way, I went to France once and it was fantastic. I barely got any sleep, partying all night and touring all day – in high heels no less. I love living in a foreign language. First few days i was in Paris. The next few days i was in the South of France (Aix-en-Provence) where there are a gazillion Americans especially students on study abroad.

Paris is a very good place to start. SO excited for you.
