...not nearly big enough. :(
but it would be even better if it were bigger. But, look at it this way, you were able to do more with the money you worked so hard to obtain, and the government got less of it then. However if you’re like me and like the “tax refund savings plan” then you could always adjust your withholding this year and get more back next year.

Mine, unfortunately, has already been pre-spent – last August in WDW. Since the refund is a good chunk lower than I had anticipated, that means I’m more “in debt” than I thought! (In debt to another bank account of mine, not to a loan charging interest – but still a loan that needs to be paid back.) But the disappointing part is that I didn’t change withholding or anything, so that must mean I paid more taxes this year!
if there’s any way we can check what this year’s withholding rate is. Because what you describe is scary.

...that withholding rates changed, and actually I have a vague memory of them changing partway through last year, but I think it’s more likely to be a matter of my deductions changing. I would have to go through the papers and look. I have my taxes prepared for me so I haven’t examined the amounts.

If you have Block or someone do your taxes, they should be able to tell you this fairly quickly. (AFTER 4/15).
