Grumpy because Matt hadn’t told me he had arranged to work and because outside looked grey and rainyhostile and simply because it was Saturday in London and it just seemed like too much effort to battle crowds on the tube and I had nobody to meet or call and just. Inhale. Sigh.
So I made myself do the chores, go to the bank and get on the tube with Esme – this time to St Paul’s and strangers were smiley and helpful.
Cheered up, we made an accordian player smile and danced in the tube. Outside we smiled at the 1950’s styled newlyweds on the steps of St Paul’s, admiring the bride twirling her scarlet underskirts. Seeing the river and the gulls made us both happy even while the wind took our breath away. We waited for the bagpiper as he unscrewed and snakecharmed each separate pipe before giving the mended beast life.
Tate Modern,Gilbert and George.
Most especially when I least feel like it.
