be able to swim 50 laps (read all 7 entries…)
March 31

Now that I’m swimming regularly again, I’m back up to easily completing half a mile in about 25 minutes. I will reach this goal by extending my swimming sessions to an hour and try to fit in a full mile. A mile is 36 laps, and so in about an hour and a half, I could swim that 50. I’ll reach this goal before July.

Wow ...

This is really impressive. That’s awesome.

What stroke are you doing this in?

Before I joined the Peace Corps I was in shape for triathlons, doing 40 laps freestyle, non-stop.

At about 40 laps, my toes would start to cramp up and there were other problems (guy problems jaja).

I can’t wait to get back to the USA and join the YMCA again.

Thanks!

I do a pattern of strokes for 12 lengths, and then repeat the pattern. I do 2 lengths of kickboard (alternating flutter kick and frog kick), then 4 lengths of breaststroke, 2 kickboard again, then 4 lengths of backstroke.

I used to swim competitively when I was a kid, but all my strokes are really rusty, so I have trouble with free (I can’t stand getting the damn water in my ears!!!). If I were in better shape, I’d probably take out the kickboard stuff and add in free, but for right now, I use the kickboard laps to catch my breath.

There’s still plenty of room for improvement in my swimming, but endurance isn’t the problem. Once I reach this goal, I’ll set other goals involving certain numbers of laps in a certain time period, to force myself to work harder as I swim.

Ears ...

Well, we all get water in our ears doing freestyle.

You gotta invest in earplugs.
