I have been living in China for six months and speak Putonghua well as I have a Chinese boyfriend who speaks no English! However I want to be more self-sufficient here, and be able to read the menus at restaurants and read the newspapers, etc. I hardly have any free time to study as I teach full-time here, but I am going to try and make a concerted effort this semester to learn at least a few characters a day…
