this is my passion. i was an african studies minor in college. i have been to tanzania and it changed my life. after going there i continued to study and really narrowed my focus on south african history and politics. my heart is in a place i have never been and i have been captured by a man loved by the world. i will make this dream come true by hearing him speak. i saw the other groups for hearing him speak, but i decided that i’d like to consider that meeting him. that is settling, but to me it would be as much of an honor because i wouldn’t want to do any of the talking anyway. i could listen to him say the alphabet and i’d be happy. if any of you know of appearances in the US anytime in the next few years (just as a way to make sure i have time to plan and get it accomplished) this is one of my biggest goals and i want it to happen. otherwise when i make it to south africa i will not only trace his footsteps, but i will hear him speak in his homeland.

Dear Sir/Madam,
The reporters of the Mail & Guardian Online are compiling a special report to celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela, while he is turning 90 next year. I’m envisaging a section in the report that will relate to people’s experience of him. It is going to become a Nelson Mandela, in your own words, section.
What we are looking for is about a 100 words of what Mandela means to you. It can be about anything. For instance, you can think of a short story on where you where the day Madiba was released from prison. Or this special feeling you have about him. Anything goes. It has to be around the 150 words. Keep it as short as possible.
We would highly appreciate your cooperation. We already received some interesting stories from prominent people as well as from ordinary South Africans. But we need many more. International ones too! Please let us know if we can rely on you or send your piece before the end of July.
