I would recommend..

LPIC (http://www.lpi.org/) It’s a great program. There are three levels which build upon each other. Right now I have level 1 and thinking about going on for level 2!

Well, when I was involved in the hiring process, when we were looking (for instance) a network engineer, anyone without “CCNA” somewhere in the list would be filtered out before we even started calling people.

It all depends on what you define as “worth working for” I suppose.
