is pretty tough to figure out. which should probably mean that the treasure should be worth a lot. either that, or i’ll bury the treasure in a common vacation spot, and post the keyword here, so that you all can participate in my treasure hunt! =)

That sounds like such a fun goal! Keep us posted!
Got Papi? (Papacito) is headed back to Microsoft! :D
Why Vigenere?
There are other cipher methods that might be more fun for beginners.
Checkout my cryptography page. I wrote a program there that will help you in code and decipher codes.

I love this goal. Let me know how it goes.

wow!
i don’t think the idea is to make it fun for beginners, the idea is to express my newfound knowledge. hahah, but wow, i’m so impressed with the program writing business. =)

Did you check it out?
Well, if you are burrying REAL treasure, then I guess you don’t want just “anyone” to find it.
But if you WANT someone to find it … then you might want to use a cipher that doesn’t require a knowledge of crypto-analysis to solve.
Did you check out my program? It might help you with writing your codes.
It has a variety of ciphers that you can use that range from easy to solve (Atbash) to virtually impossible (Dave’s Pseudo-Enigma).
Dave’s Pseudo-Enigma is a Vigenere-type cipher that is virtually impossible to solve without using computers to decipher it. It’s loosely based on the Germans’ WWII Enigma, but much simpler.
