rejections in the past couple of days. Guess the ms wasn’t as ready as I thought it was.

Keep trying.

That’s all I can say. I want to buy (insert title) very badly for my library, don’t disappoint me.

Still Plodding

It’s all a little stalled right now. I wrote to one of my rejectors (with permission) this morning, asking her to specify exactly what she thought was shitty about my book.

It’s a tough position, because no matter what she says I know it’s going to make me sad and angry. But if there’s even a chance she’ll tell me something useful that will help me make the book more saleable, I have to take it.

Consuming criticism

Maybe you’ll get more juice and less bile by taking the criticism as more to do with finding out what they want rather than the quality of your work, or maybe that your stuff is good but it needs to be great, or one of many other angles. Anyway, I hope someone tells me that next time I get a rejection. Kudos for keeping at this one, good luck, Bon Chance!

Yeah, well...

Ultimately, we couldn’t really see eye to eye on the changes. I mean, I heard what she said, and I am making changes in response to that… But not the changes she wanted.

Have you considered getting a literary agent? Half the battle of getting a book picked up by a company is convincing them to give it a good, hard look in the first place.

That's exactly what I'm doing...

I mean, it’s literary agents who are rejecting me. Or in fact, they used to reject me… now it seems they don’t bother replying at all. Technically, I have work being read by three lit agents, and introductory queries out to a dozen more. But it’s been so long since I’ve heard anything, I’ve pretty much given up on the lot of them.
