Fun, Of A Sort

It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, and they didn’t have enough interactive exhibits (they had three, and the headphones were broken on one of them). However, there was lots of cool artwork and models on display (the casts of the characters looked quite creepy in some cases!). It was all kept in display cases with tamper-proof screws, though. Not that I was checking the cases carefully. Not me.

As well as artwork, they also had a cool Toy Story zoetrope, but my favourite piece was what they called the “Artscape”. Essentially, this took you “inside” many of the pieces of art in the main exhibition and animates them. It’s hard to describe, but very impressive. Even more impressively is that it’s all done as a continuous shot, so as one piece of animation was coming to an end the transition to the overall tracking shot and on to the next animation was seamless. Pretty hard to do, even digitally, and very effective.

I think it would have been nice if there had been more background information provided for those who wanted it (i.e. me!), but all in all it was a worthwhile visit, and my pseudo-nephew agreed!
