remember exactly what my mum's voice sounds like (read all 3 entries…)
Photo History 3 years ago

Today, I was looking through some old photos, primarily from the first 3 or 4 years of my life, but also some from my mum’s 40th birthday party.

Slightly overwhelming at points, but also fun. I discovered that my predeliction for gesticulating, sticking my tongue out and generally acting up for the camera began at a very young age. I also seem to be laughing a lot, which is nice.

It didn’t quite help remind me of her voice, but there were a lot of expressions in there that made me smile. I suspect most of them were aimed at me :-)

Maybe one day

Still lots of sorting to do, and they are from the days before they invented digital, so I’ll need to acquire a scanner from somewhere.

you can use mine

i’ll even help ya with it.

ahhh

my daughter went on her one night camping with the school and came back sayinf ‘mummy it was awful, i couldn’t remember your voice, i didn’t know what you looked like anymore’

How do we keep the memories intact over YEARS, that’s what i want to know.

your mom’s pretty smile must still be aimed at u.

Thank you :-)

Such a nice comment to wake up to :-)

what a thoughtful thing to write

I can't quite remember...

...my mom’s voice, either.

But I remember a lot of her expressions and gestures. In fact, I can see them from time to time because my kids, who are adults now, make the very same expressions and gestures. Because we lived far apart, my boys didn’t get to see their grandmother very often, so I have to assume that the expressions and gestures are something they picked up from me, which I must have picked up from my mother. It’s especially touching to see my mother’s living memory in my kids.

even makes those nights I stayed up wondering where the hell they were with my car worthwhile

:)

I know what you mean.

My mum has two sisters (one older, one younger) – the younger one is the one who reminds me most of my mum, particularly in expressions and attitudes. The voice isn’t quite right of course, though I suspect it’s as close as I’ll get.
