come out to my family

My family is Asian AND religious. How?

Comments:

You can do it!

I’m a white guy from a non-religious family who has been out since 1980. It wasn’t easy for me, but it was an essential part of growing up and being honest with myself, friends and family.

There will certainly be others in your situation – some of whom will have come out and so you need to make contact with them. Search Google, for keywords like “gay asian, support, coming out etc.”, ring a local gay switchboard (if you’re in the UK) or an equivalent in your own country. Know that you are not alone and there will be many others who’ve been in a similar place to you and have done it.

A guy in our (LGBT) choir was Indian, Hindu and Gay. He’s out and proud to his brother and family.

All the best to you.

gasp!

Okay, the title to your entry caught my eye—is that really a Greek mythology reference?? hearts!!

Asian + religious is never a good mix when it comes to coming out… especially in Singapore! How’s it coming along?

I feel you. I keep saying, “My family is black and Southern Baptist.” I mean, come on! I’ve finally had conversations with them along the lines of maybe homosexuality isn’t a sin and they freaked out about that! Good luck to you.

The guy is right. There are support groups around. Participating in one, even if not Asian focused, would probably be nice. My thing is, how can I have so much queer interaction without my mom noticing? I live with her for crying out loud!

Adrianna has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
