I’m looking forward to the 2008 election. I didn’t vote in the last presidential election (shame on me). In fact, I’ve never voted in any government election. But, that’s all going to change now. (I think I’ll register Republican.) I’m so excited about the 2008 election. There’s no doubt it’s going to be interesting. We’ve got a black person, a woman, and a Mormon all running for president. (On that note, I heard a joke which followed the previous statement with, “Why not just vote for Gladys Knight?”)
I think my interest in politics finally started to grow when I worked at an “opinion center” (good ol’ Western Wats). I had to do several surveys on the 2006 congressional election and it actually interested me to hear other people’s opinions. Then after I had Michael I started to follow current events and politics a bit. Not that having a baby had anything to do with politics, but when you’re waking up for night feedings at 2 am the only thing on TV is Fox News and CNN. So, I’ve been hearing a bit about the candidates.
I don’t know yet who I’m leaning towards. I’m still learning as much about the candidates as I can because I don’t want prejudices to rule my opinion. I want to know for myself what each candidates supports and stands for. All I know is whoever becomes the next president is in trouble no matter what. If the troops in Iraq are pulled out then the next president will get the blame and pressure of the consequences. If the troops stay, the next president will deal with a very angry America.
We’ll see what the future holds.
