Should illegal immigrants be allowed to get married in the U.S.? The ACLU thinks so. 2 years ago

Oh boy, another privilege for illegals is being considered

IMHO, people in the U.S. illegally have no right to get married here! That would be absurd. My husband and I could never have gotten away with that so it’s very unfair for others to think they can. This whole problem of people breaking US immigration laws and trying to take advantage and skirt around the issues is ridiculous and needs to stop. If they start allowing all these exceptions to the rules it will only result in honest, law-abiding people (whom are willing to spend the money work hard to do this the legal way) being punished.

There is no fundamental right for an illegal to sneak into our country and do this and I don’t think it matters a girlfriend with child involved. There are plenty of ways they can do this the legal way. They can file for a fiancé visa and wait their damn turn like my husband and I did!

In my opinion, this is an inconvenience for which they have only themselves to blame. It’s his fault for coming here illegally and due to their immature decisions this is the penalty they must pay. My husband and I did the right thing and got married in Scotland, we didn’t try to sneak and do it in the U.S. If this couple is allowed to get away with this it will be a slap in the face to those of us who have obeyed US immigration laws.

Comments:

Your country?

A country is not “owned” by the people currently living there. Unless you are a native American go home!

Immigration laws prevent individuals from being able to take individual actions to improve their lot in life.

Just because you were “hurt” shouldn’t make you vindictive and want to hurt others. You know dog in a manger kind of thing.

Or am I missing something here?

Yeah, you are missing something.

I don’t recall Snookie ever saying she owned this country. She simply expressed her opinion on an important topic and you tell her to go home??? If she were born in the United States guess what, that makes her a native American… She is home… And well within her rights to share her thoughts concerning her country and possible threats to it. Immigration laws do not prevent people who belong in this country from improving their lot in life. The laws of this nation are to protect the system we have created. People who come here illegally show they have no respect for the laws of this land. They take from our local public health systems and ruin our public schools by overcrowding classrooms and creating language barrier problems that we have to pay to solve. Nuts!!! If they truly want to improve their lot in life stay home and improve it there or legally apply for entry into the greatest country in the world. Then, assimilate and contribute to our society not be a beggar, thief or abuser. Bless you Snookie!!!

thank you Ambler, what you say is true

I haven’t had time to reply to these posts as don’t use this much anymore :-)

What Carl is saying doesn’t make sense to me as I do consider myself and my husband as American 1st and foremost. It doesn’t matter where we’re from and what our bloodlines are. I mean sure, people can be proud of there heritage. But, the problem in The States today is the people who don’t think of themselves as Americans, but instead as African American’s, Mexican, Etc. I’m all for diversity but NOT when it separates people, which is what it’s doing today. Some people coming here, especially illegals think they don’t need to assimilate. This does result in unnecessary expenses for the rest of us. Also, the bottom line is illegal is illegal. They broke and disrespected our laws coming here so IMO they shouldn’t be given any privileges. It promotes the downfall of society as there are issues with gangs, brothels, drugs, crime, etc that would be solved if we would properly secure our borders. It is the governments fault for not making this happen. However, I am hoping our next president will get this done. I know if the guy I had wanted would have had the chance to be our president, it would have happened… but now I’m not so sure.

Last time I checked a history book, The States was called The UNITED States of America for a reason and our Pledge of Allegiance states, “One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” The reason The States has historically been such a great and strong country was due to those ideals. We are indivisible… we cannot and should not be divided by language, etc. We are ONE. I consider myself first and foremost American because this is the country I choose to live in and this is where I want to be!

God Bless You Ambler, you’re a great American :-)

Thank you Snookie

You are so kind!! I hope to run into you again here in the world of 43 Things!!! ambler

A different emhasis.

The US of A is a great country – based on priciples I can identify with. In the pledge that you quoted I just seem to put the emphasis on “liberty and justice for all” and not applied just those that legally crossed the borders. Remember what the inscription of the Statue of Liberty says about the huddled masses… – what happened to that compassion?
