Bully SUVs with my Miata (read all 2 entries…)
It's getting tougher and tougher to see

Roads in the US are starting to get as polarized as our politics. There are the little cars and the aircraft-carrier-wanna-be SUVs. Let me count the number of times I’ve been cut off by drivers in these gargantuan vehicles who can barely see down to my rag top. It’s time we little cars start reclaiming the roads!cough

Damn Straight!

... but how?

Seriously, I believe that, due to the sheer agility of my Miata, I have been able to avoid at least 2 accidents that, had I been driving an SUV, would have resulted in car-to-car contact.

The “safety” factor of SUVs only comes into play AFTER impact. There is more real safety in a small car, because you can control it better and avoid that impact altogether.

Yesterday ...

.. it rained for the first time in a long
period. And there were a lot of idiots
who thought their SUVs can counter
laws of physics. I don’t care as long
as they keep the damage to themselves,
but this time it was different. I was
waiting to turn left at a side road when
I noticed an idiot Ford Excursion driver
was sliding towards me with his wheels
locked because he did not slow down before
turning right for the side road!

I don’t think there’s any way to
transplant better driving brain cells to
anybody. The only way is to enforce safer
SUVs by legislation. This way the prices
of SUVs will rise further and not only
will they decrease in number, those that
are in traffic will be much safer for the
rest of the people on the road.

Also, can we report this kind of incidents
to police? Will they do anything to
prevent these cars from entering traffic?
There was no impact. But clearly
it was just by some luck that nothing
serious has happened.
