move to Paris
Why I Want To Live In Paris 2 years ago

I started going to Paris in ‘98, when my sister moved over. (She initially moved for a year – it’s now nine years later, she now has a husband and two kids and has only ever been back in Ireland on holiday). I’ve just fallen for the place : the city itself is beautiful, I love the atmosphere and the attitude around the place and – despite what some would have you believe – I’ve always found the people friendly, helpful and welcoming. The weather is also a big plus : it can get hot and sunny there, while it’s usually only cold, rainy and windy here.

I’ve had enough of having to come home. I’ve sent off a couple of jobs applications for jobs…I just can’t seem to convince myself I stand a real chance of getting there permanently though.

How exciting!

Do you speak French?

Still only looking for a job...

I speak a bit – it’s not fluent, but I can make a fairly decent effort with a conversation.

For that reason, I’m looking more for companies that are hoping to hire people with English-language skills…being fluent in English would be my big advantage !

Good plan.

It’s always best to emphasize your strengths. I want to visit several foreign countries but I don’t know if I ‘d be brave enough to live in any of them. lol. Good luck on your job hunt!

Thanks !

Though, if I did manage to make the move, I wouldn’t describe myself as brave…

I’ve been over so often, I know quite a few people who live there now – many of them, I’d consider to be very good friends. That’s not to mention my sister, of course – so, it’s not exactly like I’d be isolated or alone.

On top of that, France is (relatively) close to Ireland – home would only be a ninety minute flight away. Going to…say…Dallas would be a very different thing ;-)

That's true!

lol. I suppose it would be relatively close. I’ve always thought it would be neat to live in Europe (though as mentioned, I probably wouldn’t be that brave)—so many different cultures in close proximity. If I boarded a 90 minute flight from here (unless I went due North) I’d be hard pressed even to get out of Texas. : )

Is there any truth to the song

“April in Paris” (Billie Holiday song that I have had no luck finding on youtube to post on my click-a-songs). Is April the best month to visit?

Anytime's good !

Every season has its own charms – I remember being there in April a couple of years back, and the weather was very changeable…gorgeous morning, snowing by lunchtime ! I’ve been over the last couple of years for New Year’s Eve, and I really look forward to that trip every year. I’m normally there in July for the Bastille celebrations – sometimes it can be a bit too hot that time of year though.

"J'aime Paris au Moi de Mai"

...another famous song

Seems Paris in the Springtime is especially nice. I’ve only been in winter, with the Champs Elysee all lit up with sparkling lights. From photos I’ve seen, the City of Lights may keep Christmas lights up all year.

Oh, that’s “I love Paris in the month of May”.

“I love Paris in the springtime,
I love Paris in the fall,
I love Paris in the winter, when it drizzles,
I love Paris in the summer, when it sizzles.
I love Paris every moment,
Every moment of the year,
I love Paris,
Why, oh why, do I love Paris,
Because my love is near.”

Cole Porter, “I Love Paris”

Got to love it when it sizzles…

Thanks for

this…yes, sizzle is good!

Here you go

April in Paris. It’s not a video, but you can listen.

AAhhhhh Flirt

I’m listening now. INCREDIBLE song. My all time favorite Billie Holiday song ever, ever, ever. Thank you, sweet Flirt!

I'm just curious..

Is there any progress or a new plan about this goal ?

:)

No further forward, I’m afraid ! In fact, I have been pretty lazy about it, this last couple of months…thanks for reminding me to do something about it !

I am heading over to Paris in a couple of weeks on holiday – so I will be able to check out a couple of job agencies while I’m there. Plus, there are a couple of magazines that feature a whole pile of jobs – geared specifically at the the anglophone community in Paris – I’ll also be able to get my hands on.

I’ll have to think about this and see what else I can come up with…

Hope you can get a satisfying job there and make the things work! It’s a good point that you’ve got connections with people living there..

And for me, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone to join me to skim rocks at Canal St Martin in case I visit Paris someday :]

:D

I can’t think of anyone I’d rather go rock-skimming with !

Maybe you’d like a postcard ? I could try and find something Amelie-related, if you’d like ?

=]

Heyy, that’s so sweet of you! Everyone likes postcards I guess, right? :)

gypsiewriter thinks life is beautiful and appreciates the cheer-bombs as of late! :)

Might have asked this before...

but have you read:

Books, Baguettes and Bedbugs: The Left Bank World of Shakespeare and Co ??

worth a read!

Ooooohhhh...

...no, I haven’t ! But I’m keeping an eye out for it now !

:D
