be a better Christian (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 1 year ago

This is a goal I will never finish.
Not because it’s impossible. I’m doing it. I have my moments, true. Everyone has their moments. Sometimes it’s really hard to hold your own in this crazy world.
It’s not impossible to be a good Christian.
But you can always be better.
I say that because there is always something that, even if you don’t realize it, you might be holding in higher esteem than God. You might be thinking about something more than you think about God and what you can do to please Him.
In Philippians, Paul tells us that he pours out his life as a drink offering, and encourages his fellow Christians to do the same. And there are so many wonderful people in this world who have poured their lives out so that they might be of service to the people around them and to Christ. But there are many other people who hold back because they are afraid or because they do not know how much it is truly worth to pour out your life for the Kingdom.
Keep this in mind. Our duty as Christians is to pour out our lives. If you are not pouring out every drop, you can be a better Christian and you can offer more. And when you think you have nothing left to give, God will give you a free refill, and you can pour your life out some more.

FTJoshua should have finished math when he had the chance 10 years ago.

Maybe try being a better follower of Christ instead? The rules are a lot easier, and a lot more challenging. :)

What’s the difference?

To me – this is an opinion – being a “better Christian” leads down a road of rules and regulations, and Jesus wasn’t about that. What did he really say to do? “Follow me.” That was pretty much it. How do we do that? By doing what he did. What did he do? Follow a bunch of Jewish laws…

Well, no. He did do that, sure, but that’s not what he came to do.

He Loved People. Period, no other questions. Every word, every action, every thought is preceeded by the question, “Am I loving this person?”

most of the time, the answer is No. That’s why it’s hard. But it’s also that simple.

Being a “better” Christian means there is something you can quantify, something you can measure against a standard. I don’t read anywhere in the Bible where Jesus wants to do that to us. His standard is Himself. So (in long-overdue conclusion), I think you’re better off trying to be like HIM instead of trying to be “better” at what some of his people started calling themselves.

You don’t need to be a “better Christian” to follow Christ.

Whew. Does that help?

{Remember: The Bible doesn’t say following Jesus will be easy, it says it’ll be worth it.} :)
