I had an apartment in a converted house that had been built in 1907. It was a small Gothic-revival castle, complete with stained glass windows, winding staircase in the tower, turrets and battlements. I loved it. I felt like a princess, and the landlords were nice, to top it off.

The address is 24077 Second Street, Hayward, CA. It was built in 1912 by a mining magnate, and is formally known as Stanton Hall. It’s designated as an historic structure by they city of Hayward. I wish I could find a photo of it online, but there doesn’t seem to be one. It’s a charming place.
