The last and the next week will be my peak weeks, at least considering the mileage. Today I ran 31.2K, i.e. 4 laps by 7.8K and the results are very promising. I felt great for the first three rounds and hit the wall during the fourth one. In fact during this run I set my PB on 4 different courses at the same time ranging from 7.8K to the full distance of 31.2K. The lap times were 39:35, 37:03, 38:37 and 44:10. I am not that worried about the last round since I train with empty stomach early in the morning and do not use any refreshments during the run except water. It is just to be expected that sooner or later i will run out of fuel, while in the race with all the refreshments, energy gels, eloctrolyte drinks and good two weeks of taper the situation should be quiet different. The total for the past week is 95K. I really feel that I am ready for the run more than ever before. This of course raises quite high expectations for the race itself, on the other hand I have a great fear of failure. The more you can win, the more you are afraid of not winning. .... feeling strong and feeling strange … :-(

I wish
you could do the ol’ Vulcan mind meld with me, so maybe you could adopt my more zen-like approach, now that you’ve trained so well. The mind meld would give me a much-needed shot of your ambition, and give you my laid-back “just have fun” attitude so you’d relax and do your best. Don’t know any Vulcans, do you? :D
Vulcans are really new to me ...
... but giving up a bit of my stresfull ambitions for your “just have fun” approach sounds like a good deal. In fact, I was not really having that high ambitions, just wanted to see the progress, since yes, I enjoy each day being better than yesterday … but its no tragedy not to be. But now, its like you are not sure whether you should feel responsible to yourself, and you are even kind of scared and not sure how to handle the situation, when the results are quite beyond your original expectations …. i know this brings me back to your Vulcan proposal ;-)
Sorry
it’s an old Star Trek reference. Sometimes I forget that not everyone is a geek like me! :D
I think you’ll have a great time. Which race are you running?
... ohh dont be sorry ...
... it’s me who is lacking the basic education ;-)).
I should be running the Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City, MI on May 26th. Less then three weeks to go … getting nervous, and some annoying pain in my right knee too. I took a day off today and will keep it very slow till the end of the week. So it’s like if my taper period already begun.
