Luna is taking a break from 43T. She will be back :)
I’m watercoloring every day. I borrowed from the library Watercolor for the Serious Beginner and Watercolor Basics: Painting from Photographs to improve my technique.

Sorry for the very late response, but I just caught your comment.
Thank you for your praise. I haven’t painted anything lately, but somehow this post has generated some recent interest. Maybe I should get my interest back into watercoloring again :)

Thank you! I got into a Flicker group in May to make art every day in May. Sometimes I did some watercolor and sometimes I did photography. But I haven’t done any watercoloring since June 1st :P
This particular piece was just really an exercise (like all the others) because I was trying (still am, but not very fervently lately) to get back into watercolor. I did much in high school and then in university, but I drifted away from it :S
I haven’t posted many watercolors in Flicker —nor many photos for that matter… hmmm, maybe I should turn that into a goal…

What subjects have you typically chosen for your work?
I basically used to do landscapes in watercolor when I was younger. I’m now into close-up nature, but I’d really like to get into human figure and portraits. I used to be quite good in this subject when we had live models. But they were done mostly with charcoal and conté pencils on kraft paper. And some of them were 5-minute sketches. I really liked that class.
Why did you drift away from it?
Regular work, I guess. As a graphic designer, I mostly worked on a computer, so there wasn’t space for handmade art. Of course, I could’ve done it in my free time, but I never did.
But then, a couple years ago in my last job, one of my assignments was to do an informational panel about birds in the area (I worked for a natural water park). There was a talented artist (working as a guide) who I asked to do all the drawings of the birds. He did them very well, but then he quit. When I was assembling all the drawings and everything together, I noticed that he had missed the heron one, so I put myself the task to do it. On my very first try, I accomplished it quite nicely and was very surprised of myself, that I still had some watercolor technique in myself after all these years!! So that’s what I’m working on now. I haven’t grasped the passion as I’d like to —I have other issues in my life that I’m addressing as well—, but I’m working towards that goal :)

I reckon this painting was well executed. But I must mention that this one was an exercise and was taken from a photo. I was practicing with the techniques of the above-mentioned book.
But thank you! This recent interest in my watercolors has just inspired me to retake my goal :)
