That must be the biggest dream of my life. Now if only I were famous or the salary of a whole symphony orchestra would be cheaper…
Comments:
Start small!
Perhaps you could try working out your symphonic ideas by writing for a smaller ensemble first—perhaps for a string or wind quartet.
This is good for several reasons:
1. You learn to say what you want to say with a limited number of voices. Many themes are doubled anyway in orchestration!
2. If you’re a student (high school or college), it’s a heck of a lot easier to get a student chamber group to play your work than a large ensemble like an orchestra.
3. An added bonus of working with a small student group is that you get experience leading a group of musicians without having to maintain the interest/attention of a large group.
Good luck, and keep writing! And don’t keep your writing to yourself—sharing it will bring all kinds of feedback so you can learn more about the art of composition!
One day
Thanks alot for that reply! I appreciate it very much. Actually I intended to study composing in Berlin years ago but it was hilariously hard to get accepted (only 2 guys did) and by some weird circumstances I ended up doing something completely different now. Thus not having a chance to re-apply again. Anyways, I like that idea you suggested a lot and think I will just try to do that. Music’s my passion so I’d never give up on that. I hate myself for regretting the way I took though sometimes…
What kinda music u’re going to working on? classic? Why not start a band first? it will be easier. Break a big one into small pieces and tackle them one by one. Good luck~
‘classic’ is a very broad genre but if I had to put it in some general category: Yes, I think most people would think of it being classic. I am a great fan of film music and would consider my own music going a similar way: musical pieces that would reflect a certain scene or mood/atmosphere. I used to have a band. I also had my (electronical) music played in front of an audience of ~ 2000 people. Yet I lost focus on my music in favor of other things (e.g. work). I have faith I can catch up one day and spend more time with making music.
However, you are right. It is always a good thing to approach a big goal like this piece by piece. I might indeed starting off writing pieces for a small combo like a string quartett or a band. And if that works try to go bigger ;)
U've done a lot~
I like searching film music too, especially those films that impressed me a lot. Some are songs, delivering sweetness, but the most grand emotion is from pure music, which always push feeling to the climax.
I know it’s difficult to concerntrate on music while have to work. My friend solved the conflict by quitting college. I don’t mean it’s the best choice but I am impressed by his devotion. I’m sure u will stick to your dream, for u’ve achieved some so far. Keep it up and U surely will make it!_
Christine is working hard.
If you need a pianist... :)
Hands up
I always barely passed my composition classes. I just seemed to use the eraser more than the pen. Hah!
