I signed up for Intro! 4 years ago

This is a huge step. I signed up for a 6-month Intro class in Oakland/Berkeley. Features 2 different synagogues, 4 different rabbis. I will have my pick. I’m supposed to have a rabbi before I begin, which puzzles me….but perhaps I will find one in the 3-day intro class before the BIG intro class. One can hope.

Just wanted to know if you were going to visit Mod. Orth. temples like Beth Jacob (Oakland) or Beth Israel (Berkeley)? Or are the two synagogues you are going to reform or conservative? If you come to Beth Israel, which is a very nice community IMHO, there are always open tables for Shabbat (Friday night) so you can experience traditional reception of Shabbat… it is great, but can be a little overwhelming at first…

These are things I’m hoping to learn in my initial classes, and you’re helping right now! I will be visiting Beth Jacob this week, and I hope to take a look at Beth Israel somewhere along the way. Beth Israel’s Shabbat services sound wonderful. Thank you for the information – I’m serious when I say I have no idea where to start, and that I appreciate any drop of knowledge anyone can offer (like you). So, thanks!
