I’ve been trying to get in touch with my roots, especially on my mother’s side, and being that she is a pureblooded Indian I would love to learn her native language, as well as some day travel to India myself

I haven't
studied the culture extensively, at least not yet, but I have been able to trace most of my family back for about three generations (some of my relatives live in Fiji rather than India, which makes the whole effort a bit more difficult). By the way – though this is unrelated to the topic – congratulations on graduating summa cum laude!
