find the truth (read all 3 entries…)
I wish

wish wish I knew what’s true.
I’ve been very hardcore Catholic for a long time, and suddenly it just stopped seeming real to me.
I feel confused.
My family is all pretty intensely Catholic. My boyfriend is Atheist.
There’s kind of a lot of pressure from all sides.

Comments:

the truth

isn’t really knowable in the way it is with other things. Do your best to find what works for you and the rest comes natural. Parents or boyfriend be damned.

you're

completely right.
Thank you for that.

He's There... :)

Just wanted to say. That even though life can get crazy ..God is There..

Truth is something that is tangible and obtainable.. The religions that aren’t true do not provide arhceological, historical, philosophical, scientific, or any kind of evidence… I would plead with you that the the Bible does all of that!

If you need this evidence I can provide it or you can pick up a couple good books (The Case for Christ/Creator by Lee Strobel, The Evidence that demands a verdict by Josh Mcdowell…) ...but moreover The Bible itself provides that “Realness” you need. I was catholic and also in the same position you were in, maybe even leaning toward athiesm…but God found me personally … Too many times people get caught up in the tradition of religion and forget about the goodness of God and the fact that He wants to be personal and close to us! I’d love to help you find these answers about all of this if you’re interested… let me know.. I’ll write more! You can explore http://www.jesusfactorfiction.com for some of the initial evidences and stories.. but seriously, God is There – He’s had more thoughts of you than the sand on the shore (psalm 139) ... If you’re boyfriend needs the deeper nuclear physics of it all he can explore reasons.org, str.org or godandscience.org (it takes some study time to truly be an athiest or a creationist)...and that might help both of you along… The Bible provides YOU a way that you can know for sure that you are going to heaven… and it doesn’t involve anything good or bad that you’ve done.. I’d love to share more to you (or anyone reading)..

thanks

for the informative response. alot of times the bible seems really contradictory you know? one thing that’s been bothering me is this passage:
“But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being quite deceived, fell into transgression” (1 Tim. 2:12-14)

Stuff like that makes me really angry.
thoughts?

adam screwed up too! (the bum!) :)

good thoughts! ... honestly The bible doesnt think less of the woman at all! God holds women in such a high regard!During the genesis accounts the original languages portrayed Eve as being very much EQUAL to adam, and necesarry for him – God created her PERFECT.. The man as the Bible puts it is “head” of the household, BUT only in the sense of having to decide a final call, and thats only if he is not sinning in his decision. My wife (as genesis also portrays) is my partner…my equal… Honestly, I let her handle the finances, I have her tell me what I am to spend.. does that make her better than me, no. I just know she wont spend all our money like I will :) ... When it comes to the husband making that final call, it in no way makes him better than her. in fact, a good husband would seek his wifes thoughts on the matter! The husband is COMMANDED to look out for his wifes better interests, even maybe to the point of laying down his life for her (how romantic is that? ) ...In doing this (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Epehsians 5:25-28 below) he is held responsible for that final call before God.. again, this does NOT make him any better.. He just get’s the heavenly beating in the end if he screws up.. Marraige in the bIble is always encouraged as a Partnership… Some of these rules about women and men might have been in regards to the culture of the day.. Christians are to be above reproach (not hypocrits), so if as a society women were quiet (like the middle east today) the bible probably encouraged Christian women to be among the best standing in the eyes of others …Not so they would have to sacrifice, but so they would be a greater light for the love of Christ!

So as a man am I in any way better than you biblically.. you probably spend your money better than me too! :)

Honestly.. You can ask or even challenge me as much as you want, if you want . You are doing very much the RIGHT THING… I’d start asking qustions if all my friends started to jump off a cliff! Challenge Everything – then you’ll start finding whats real…and whats not!

Again, In regards to the “realness” of everything… Start finding Believers that truly live what they preach… otherwise you are just around a bunch of people that aren’t real… christians of the bible should glow…if they sing “joy,joy,joy”...they should live it..
also see leestrobel.com for some more Real people..I hope in no way to be bothering you.. and I hope that I am helpful… I actually had my wife help me not talk toooooo much.. :)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does
not envy, it does not boast, it is not
proud. It is not rude, it is not self
-seeking, it is not easily angered, it
keeps no record of wrongs. Love does
not delight in evil but rejoices with
the truth. It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always
perseveres.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as
Christ loved the church and gave
himself up for her to make her holy,
cleansing her by the washing with
water through the word, and to present
her to himself as a radiant church,
without stain or wrinkle or any other
blemish, but holy and blameless. In
this same way, husbands ought to love
their wives as their own bodies. He
who loves his wife loves himself.”

a few more ?s

you clearly know your stuff, which is always refreshing! You’re not bothering me at all, I’m always open to discussing/ debating things, particularly religion, and you’ve been most helpful.
If you don’t mind me asking a few more bible-related things, what’s your opinion on all the weird rules and regulations in the Bible like in Leviticus? I know most churches say they don’t apply to us anymore, but why? I mean, if the Bible’s absolute truth, then why do people insist on some things, and completely disregard others?
Another thing- the whole Adam and Eve story seems really anti-knowledge. It makes religion just seem like a way of controlling people, you know? Like, stay ignorant and happy, don’t seek to find knowledge and truth, and if you do, you’ll be punished. That’s kind of what I get out of that whole story. On top of which, in the Adam and Eve story, it says that part of women’s punishment is to be submissive to their husbands and have childbearing pains. Like it just seems so convenient for whoever wrote that part of the Bible (obviously male). I’m sure I come off as a hardcore feminist, and I don’t mean any of it as an insult to you or other men, I just find some parts of the Bible degrading.

Thanks for holdin on

Hey I’m still here.. I wanted to provide you with some good stuff for this one, not the typical mumbo….and quite honestly, I didnt know that stuff off hand – :P but I’ll give you my thoughts on that tomorrow in the laziness of the sunday afternoon. Just to discredit myself from being super Holy and a know-it-all like most Christians [so unfortunate!]. I understand that I’m seeking truth too…and I don’t know it all… hope you have a good weekend :) ...I’ll try and catch you tomorrow…
