Learn to deal with negativity in a way that won't perpetuate more negativity (read all 2 entries…)

tonight I discovered that although I dont let others negativity get to me, I instead FEED off it which in turn acknowledges the negativity thereby allowing it to manifest inside me. So, although it doesnt get me THEN it gets me LATER! Still not good! I need to work then on not letting it there in the first place. Anyone have any comments on this?

That's a tough one....

I’m working on releasing negativity, too. The best way that works for me is to be mindful of it (of course) and do something meditative to help me release it if I see that I’m harboring it. For me, going on nature walks/hikes, meditating, and working on prayer beads help. I think they all work because they get me outside my head, in a sense. When I’m walking, I’m more mindful of my surroundings. When meditating, I’m still here but my focus is completely different. And when I’m working on my prayer beads, the beads absorb my attention. The physical busy-ness helps, too.

Do you have any hobbies that require your undivided attention? If not, meditation might be a good place to start.

Thank you for the advice. I do all of those things and yes they help a lot. I guess you made me realize a point and that is I am too busy all the time and up until very recently, I wasnt giving myself any me time. I was just working and spending time doing social activities. I want to spend more time being alone because I feel better afterwards. Lately I have been doing this and it has been helping so I am glad I got to write in that update.

I had trouble with that, too, after my kids were born. I was so consumed with being a mom that I forgot I needed time to just be ‘me’.

I’m glad you’ve found a way to lessen the effects of other people’s negativity on you. :>
