GO FOR IT! There is nothing hard about learning to fly except…
1)Overcoming the natural fear of the unknown. The best way to do this is to go to your local airport. Go into the flight centers, and tell them you are thinking of learning to fly. If they don’t offer you a tour and make you feel comfortable. Simply go on to the next flight center.Keep doing this until you find one you feel comfortable at (people, atmosphere, etc.) Then get that introductory flight. Careful though, because then you’ll be hooked. :-)
You are the customer, they should be friendly, and knowlegable.
Find an instructor at one of these place that you feel you connect with. He will be your teacher, mentor, and guide. So he/she has to be able to communicate in a way YOU can easily understand. A good question to ask a potential instructor is, “What do you love most about flying?”. That kind of question gives you some insight into the person who’ll be guiding you to your wings.
They should be flying/instructing because that’s their passion. BTW, There’s nothing wrong with an instructor who’s accruing flight hours as a stepping stone towards becoming an airline pilot. As long as they have have a pssion for flight, and the desire to infect you with that same passion. :-)
2)Making the commitment of time to do the studying. Believe it or not, this is the hardest part. The information is essentially high school level, so it’s not too tough. However it requires memorizing LOTS of info. And of course that takes time.
Learning to control an airplane is actually easy. Learning all the FAA regulations, weather, aeronautical science, etc. is the hard part (unless you’re good at memorizing things.).
You CAN do it. IF you can afford to fly a MINIMUM of one hour per week, and the time and commitment to study FAITHFULLY.
If I can do it ANYONE can.
