My weight is holding steady, but it’s getting hotter (Mississippi Summer, you know), and my car has no air. Thus my BP is way up. I went to the doc, and he wants me to take stuff for it, but I’m paranoid about taking meds. Don’t know why, I just never do it. So, here’s the catch-22: My bp is high in part because of my weight, so I can’t exercise. But I can’t lower my BP via exercise, because it’s already too high. Comments? Suggestions? Maybe it’ll get better after I get used to the Summer again.

meds
are not forever. You could use them temporarily. They could assist you to get on with the exersise. Oh yes, and could prevent a stroke from walking around wih elevated BP.
Low Impact is the key. Walk off some weight, then the BP will go down. Then you can build yourself up to where you can do more.
I didn’t want to go the meds route either, and now I have pretty much normal BP (might still be a little higher than normal, but I know it’s close).
I can do an hour of high impact cardio, burn 1000 calories, and still be ready to do more. I couldn’t do that in January, back then it was difficult doing 45 minutes of walking without being winded and feeling my heart thumping out of my chest.
i see the challenge here
discus this with your physician , maybe something with very little long term side effects is available to you . i do understand your reluctance to take meds and perhaps you could only use them temporarily and minimally too .
some form of moderate exercise may also be good for your situation , talk to any professional people you can and good luck .
Walk..walk walk!
Medically speaking if you walk an hour a day, 6 days a week in the evenings, after the sun sets, and drink plently of water than you should be fine exercising your way into a lower BP. If you are more natural in your approach and really watch your sodium intake and drink 8-10 glasses of water, and research and eat foods that help lower BP naturally than you should do well. Also eat raw garlic every day that you can. I would even eat it daily if you really are concerned. Garlic is good for the blood and circulary system. You can peel garlic once or twice a week – fresh and chop it up over your food or eat it by itself. If you cook it’s still good, but looses alot of the nutrients that help. No matter what when your over weight it will hurt to even walk for an hour at first, but as long as you rest when absolutely needed during this you should be ok. Talk to your doctor most of all. Discuss what you can and should do. Most doctors would never advise against any exercise at all. Do your research too. If you read up on it and see what your actual BP numbers are you can have a better understanding of what is good for a more natural approach. Best of Luck… I hope your BP gets better soon!
