Thats a great goal, certainly one I’m aspiring to!

Yesterday I got some photos of a place called Daisy, in Evans County, Georgia.

I am pursuing a story that I heard about a place in Evans County, between Daisy and Claxton. It is called The Ghost Mill. This place is a mill and a loading dock along a radio. It also has a general store (now become convenience store) and gas pumps.

Long ago, there were three African-American men who were put to death by having their heads placed on the rails. Ever since, legend has it that the mill is haunted by one (or more?) of the men.

The lady who told the story to her grandson is reticent to discuss this. However, I think if there is truth to the story, someone else knows as well. Her grandson told me yesterday that the row of houses where she lives was formerly the slave quarters. It’s still called The Quarters by some folks.

According to the Bergman brothers, in 1790 Georgia had 29, 264 African slaves and 398 freed African American men. Combined, these were 35.93% of the state’s population. Compare this to107,094 slaves and 1801 freed men in South Carolina, who comprised 43.72% of its population.

Be brave…carry a camera around with you. Sure sometimes it’s an inconvenience, and a pain to lug around, but sometimes you’ll see something and say to yourslef “man I wish I had a camera right now!” Even if you don’t use it all the time carry it around, keep it in your car, or somewhere nearby.
