Mad-lib Showtunes — 1 year ago
Well, this attempt went miserably awry. Allegedly, this cabaret near my apartment is suppose to host Mad-lib Showtunes every Sunday from 7 to 10 (or at least that is what the posters which hang in both their windows say). So J and I decide to check it out, we get there about 7:25 and walk into a silent, empty cabaret, but the waiter asks us if we’re here for the show to which we say yes. He informed us that there was a two drink minimum (and the drink menu informed us that the minimum price for a drink was $9). We snuck into the back with our heavy on the mixers, light on the spirits drinks and quickly found that the advertised show of MadLib Showtunes was NOT what was happening here. We politely sat through the rest of the show (30 looooooooooooong minutes—we’ve both seen good cabaret before and unfortunately this wasn’t it) and explained to our waiter that we were really here for the MadLibs, to which he apologized and said that was going on the front of the Cabaret (could have fooled me as there was no one up there besides him and the bartender). The bartender tried to act like it was our fault that we wandered into the other show. And as for the MadLib Showtunes Guy (who “had stepped out for a bite to eat” when we had arrived) when asked about doing some MadLib Showtunes, he said he thought he had some on hand and managed to do two (the whole time swapping inside info with the five other people that arrived) before totally canning any pretense that we were doing MadLibs in order to chat more with his fanbase.
