discover the western world's most popular fictional character (read all 2 entries…)
What does it say about our psyche ...

... that our most popular fictional character in western civilization is an evil, shape-shifting creature of the night? That he can be elegant, persuasive, sophisticated, eloquent, cultured, charming, and yet regards us mortals with utter contempt? That he must feast upon our blood and discard our useless carcasses when they are exhausted? That he basically scares the shit out of us?

Kinda makes you wonder what the birds are twittering about and what the dogs are barking about and what the apes are grunting about, doesn’t it. When they sleep, that is.

Comments:

Fear of Death?

You raise an interesting idea. We do seem rather obsessed with vampires in recent times.
