Ok, so I am 33 and have been battling acne most of my life and have tried everything from diet changes to every medication known to man. I did accutane in my early 20’s and that worked for the cystic like acne. All of a sudden, the acne has stared again. I have been hiding out at our cabin since Wednesday, too embarassed to go anywhere. My husband, who is out of town, thinks I am exxagrating, but seriously, the acne I have right now, especally the huge cystic one on the side of my nose is horrible. So, I go to the derm on Thursday and he gives me antibotics and a face cream. Not before he shoots up my face with corisone (I asked him to) to get rid of the cystic one faster. Today is Sunday, and I finally feel like I can leave the house. I have been spending 100’s of dollars on face creams, etc, and all he said I should use is soap and the perscrption he gave me. Anyway, I just want to look clear again and have my hopes in these meds.

I’m having a similar issue, though I don’t think mine is nearly as obvious…my OB said it was all hormone related….so…I wonder.

I have had several friends report improvement by taking probiotic supplements. I still have break outs around my cycle time and I’m 34. I had a bout of cystic type acne in my late twenties after a divorce, job change, and move. I feel that stress exacerbated the acne and it took almost two years for it to subside. Have you had any major stressors? In my case, I believe it was mainly stress related, but it was surprising how long it took for it to get back to baseline. Now I use retin-A on my trouble spots and wrinkle lines. Good luck. I remember at one point I had so many huge pimples, my coworkers thought I had contracted a disease….they would ask me “what’s wrong?” it was very embarrassing. No amount of cover up ever helped. Time heals all!
