Automated Savings Plan 2 years ago

I found the easiest way to save money was through an automated draw from my primary checking into my savings account. On top of that, I took some IT contracting work and put all the money from that (which was extra) into savings. In the past 6 months, I’ve been able to save almost $10,000, without altering my lifestyle.

I’ll call this a success.

Sounds like you were quite successful at questering the extra funds you envisioned, without altering your lifestyle. I am impressed.

A Matter of Perception

I think it all comes down to perception. Because I spent every paycheck, I thought it would be impossible to save any money. But by saving the money, I didn’t have it in the checking account to spend, and i barely even noticed.
