work on my photography (read all 4 entries…)
Progress! 2 years ago

I actually managed to make a little progress this past weekend, at the Tall Ships Festival. (Always a good opportunity to get out and take pictures, though this year wasn’t as good as it has been in the past.) I think I shot more photos this week than I have in the past year.

Of course, progress on this goal means a bit of a setback on my goal to ‘get my film developed’ – another six or seven rolls added to the backlog – but I’m ok with that.

Did you take your avatar photo? Or edit it, even? It’s incredible and the colors are impeccable. :)

The Tall Ships Festival sounds like a brilliant place to catch some amazing shots. I’m lacking in my motivation, but I’d love to get back into the photo a day world.

Thanks!

Yeah, my avatar photo’s one of my own – no edits, straight out of the camera. I’m glad you like it. I tend to get a little self-critical when it comes to photography – it’s always nice to have someone say they like something I’ve shot.

The Tall Ships are amazing. I’m lucky, actually – there are a lot of summer festivals around here that lend themselves to good photos. It seems like that’s the only time I can get myself motivated to go out and take any photos. I really have to put more effort into that, I think.

My pleasure!

I love that color combination together and that you found it in nature is even better! I have absolutely no photography training, but I love to take pictures, so I’m definitely self-critical too.

I was planning a move to Boston where I was so exited to take pictures of similar events. Maybe I’ll find something phenomenal the next place I plan to move. I hear St. Paul has a stellar farmers’ market that I think might make a brilliant study…

I don’t have any formal training, either. I’ve thought about taking some classes, but I don’t think it’s really necessary. Like most creative endeavors, it comes down to practice. (And I’ve gotten much more critical of my own photos since I fell out of the habit of carrying my camera everywhere. I’m sure the two things are related.)

I think there are good opportunities for photos pretty much everywhere. The nice thing about outdoor festivals, or farmers’ markets, anything like that, is that it’s a lot easier to carry a camera around without feeling like a complete tourist. ::grin::
