It was worth it, because it taught me something about the value of actually being happy with what you are doing. I actually didn’t hate my job as a whole, I hated that it was an unpredictable 10 1/2 – nearly 12 hours a day, and a just as unpredictable 4 – 6 (four was very, very rare) days a week, making it nearly impossible to have any sort of social life. My friends were understanding but getting irritated, as were some of my family. I was fine with what I was doing, I just wanted to have shorter days. I might have even been able to handle the hours if it hadn’t been for how severely underpaid I ended up being. My employer was a really… interesting person, I had always been very, unnecessarily, flexible with her and nice about it to boot. She did not return the favor and actually got fairly nasty with me on one occasion. When I approached her about the pay she very begrudgingly gave me a raise because she knew if she didn’t I’d be gone and she’d be up a creek without a paddle, so to speak. Tried to tell me she thought what she was paying me was fine and then stuck her foot in her mouth by presenting proof that she knew it wasn’t, she didn’t really have any defense after that blunder. What I asked for was still technically on the extremely low side of pay for what I was doing, but that didn’t seem to register with her. Needless to say seeing as she didn’t really want to pay me right, she somehow found someone else to take the job, and dropped me faster then a hot potato. Luckily I still have some money coming in at the end of this week from that job which means if all goes well I can finish paying for my car since I wasn’t able to before… yeah, the negatives outweigh the positives, not worth it, avoid it at all costs if you can. Sorry about my rant… :-)
