foster seeing-eye puppies (read all 6 entries…)
And now, we blog. 4 years ago

I decided to start a second, distinct blog for the puppy walking. It’s at http://puppywalking.blogspot.com/ which may show up on my “main” site, or not. I haven’t figured it all out. I’ll do that later, after a nap.

In the image, Rocky discovers his reflection! “Aren’t I beautiful?” he says.

Rockwell photos

I visit the puppy blog sporadically, but I check 43T faithfully. Since the subscription page change, I’ve been seeing all the Rocky photos and just love them. How much longer do you have him? I can’t believe how fast he got big. He’s still gorgeous and I’ll bet he’s going to be a wonderful guide dog.

growing up

Hi Annie! It’s funny, since my blog has become more popular, I have not been as obsessive about 43 Things. There is a group of “dog bloggers” (most of whom are on my blog roll) and we all read each others’ blogs and comment on them frequently. I feel like they are “fans” and I want to keep them happy. :)

Rockwell has certainly grown since I got him. I don’t know how big he will get but I am thinking at least 80 pounds. But he will be much taller and thinner than Uma. We signed an 18 month contract with Guide Dogs and his birthday is June 20. I am thinking he will be with us into the early Fall. They will assess him to see when he is mature enough to commence training. I wondered if he wasn’t very bright but then I developed my “sensitive dog” theory (the second Jan. 7 entry). I just hope he adapts to kennels because sometimes, that alone can flunk them. Once the weather gets nicer, I’ll start taking him to class with me and we’ll go more places and I hope he will toughen up a little. But he’s a sweet-natured dog.

"Sensitive Dog" theory

Interesting entry, Julia, and I hope it does explain Rocky. Dogs are just all so different and they change as they mature, too. My boy, Jesse, was brave as a pup, but now he’s a real wimp. There was no particular incident that frightened him, so I’m clueless as to why he changed. Hopefully Rocky will change in the opposite direction and become more self-assured and confident. His tendency to be observant sounds like a wonderful quality for a guide dog.

My vote for the sign, “I’m a trained killer.”
