Powell’s is a bookstore! Go to www.powellsbooks.com and you can check it out. Powell’s City of Books is the one you want to visit, the biggest, first and best of the company’s stores. Read the history bit on the website—it’s fascinating.
A full city block, parts of it are four stories, every room is as big as a mall bookstore with three times as many books.
It’s awesome.
You can get there on a combo of MAX and the streetcar, or Tri-Met, MAX, streetcar if you’re really far from the center. Or drive; parking’s dicey but you can usually find something without walking too many blocks.

No – I’m in Idaho. The Lolo fires are quite east of me, in Montana.
Plan at least two or three hours for Powells—and there are used books there as well as new, right on the same shelves.
