do an elimination diet (read all 6 entries…)
Preliminaries 2 years ago

I’m going to read this here book during which period of time I’m going to start mixing decaf beans in with my caf beans thereby weaning myself from my caffeine addiction and hopefully thereby reducing the pain I will feel when I give up the juice altogether.

I dunno… let’s call the preliminary period 2 weeks. We’ll go half caf tomorrow morning.

I did this

cold turkey, with advil and much grumbling, so my heart goes out to ya.

I can’t resist the siren call of the coffee…I just can’t, damnit.

It lasts about a week, each time.

I need that one espresso in the morning, with it’s lovely beige foam…it’s impossible to resist.

This seems like a great idea, going half caf, though!

Hang in there, Sitio!
You can do it!

Yeah, what sucks

is that advil is also off the list for the elimination diet. All NSAIDs are out.

Apparently, acetaminophen is ok. Maybe on this elimination diet, acetaminophen mysteriously starts actually doing something.

I have fear.

On the coffee front, I did give it up for a month once. It didn’t have any real energy-level, fatigue effect on its own, but I am coming to understand that giving up one thing in isolation isn’t a very good elimination test.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I’ll be needing regular doses of it.

I can't

even handle decaf now. I get this low-level nausea, sometimes much later in the day.

I think it’s actually the coffee acidity, not the caffeine itself, because I can handle super-strong matcha green tea milkshakes (my healthy answer to those green frappuccinos) with no problem.

:-(

ah, the acidity

Yes, that’s something I don’t like.
I cut out big American coffee for that reason. A really well-pulled espresso has no acidity.

Yeah, I wonder about decaf some times…a lot of them are made with harsh chemicals and I’m not sure the “water decaf” method is real.

I’ve read that the caffeine comes at the end of the pull with espresso, so if you are pulling correctly (and not making a very big amount) the espresso has less caffeine than a full cup of regular coffee…something about the caffeine coming at the end of the pull (don’t know how much I buy it)

Green frappuccino?! the horror!
I’m going to have to find the bookmark to your blog for the milkshakes you mention, though; those sound good!

I know

those Starbucks dealies really are the most ooky color. And packed with HFCS.

As Bart Simpson says, “Disgusting, and yet strangely compelling.”

Anyway, all I do is throw 4 or 5 ice cubes in the blender, add about 1 1/4 cups of milk, half to a whole teaspoon of matcha, and a little sugar, and blend. (Did I blog it? I forget. I am so burned out on blogging. I know I wrote about a green tea study once on my health blog…)

It comes out a lovely pale jade green :-).

that sounds great!

I’m going to give it a try!

I thought of you today, as I shared a scoop of green tea ice cream with the hubby over sushi lunch.

not overly sweet, which I usually find everything to be.

I bet this one is good with a little bit of frozen yogurt, too, in the summer :P

Go Organic

‘21st Century Disease’ is a diagnosis of our age in which all our food contains chemicals, additives, preservatives and no end of food acids and colourings. If you can get back to the organic nature of foods – natural fibres, proteins, fruit and veg that hasn’t been ‘pre-made’, I think you will find that many of your symptoms disappear.

I am like a litmus test – whenever I have something that is not “natural”, my body responds immediately with digestive problems, bloating, headaches, tiredness and extreme lethargy… so, try keeping off processed foods and reduce your intake of wheat and other complex grains – this helps reduce stress on the digestive system. (as well as reducing intake of coffee and sugar unfortunately). Though less convenient and sometimes more expensive – eating more organic foods certainly helps the body to function as it was so designed.
