Try meditation (read all 4 entries…)
Today I gave it another try 2 years ago

doing the most basic thing of sitting still for 20 minutes and trying to observe my thoughts. I have a question though – do you have to sit absolutely still? If your nose is really itching, can you move to scratch it? (It was, and I did.)

I was struggling a little to observe my thoughts rather than just think them and splash around in them and probably drown in them. And fall asleep. I was a bit tired :)

But I’d like to try doing this as a long-term thing – apparently you feel the benefits after a while. I’m not sure whether it’s better to do this in the morning or at night – I’m going to try adding this to my morning routine and see how it goes.

Ali

I would have scratched my nose also.

I would imagine that getting your mind to stop racing and to stop going off on tangents would be one of the most difficult things to accomplish when meditating. It certainly is when I’m praying, which probably hinders me from always hearing what God is trying to say to me. I guess it just takes practice and patience.

Kudos to you for giving it another go! If you figure out any helpful hints on how to minimize one’s inner dialogue, please clue me in!

It is hard

my mind is on overdrive most of the time (doesn’t mean it gets anywhere :) ), and not only slowing it down but trying to distance yourself from it is pretty hard. I don’t think you need to get your mind to stop though, at least not with meditating – rather, you’re supposed to observe your thoughts, and let them float on by. I think.

Practice and patience, that’s the one. (two? ones?)

Practice makes perfect apparently

I got into it for a while. I used a guided meditation CD to help me out to start with and found that very useful. I’m going to have another crack at getting into a routine so will keep an eye on how you do with this one.

Hey PM

Do you close your eyes when you meditate? Sit cross-legged? Do you move during meditation? (Basic questions I know, but I know so little about meditating :) )

Ira has gotten 4 cheers on this entry.
