Kiva Maps Now Available  — 1 year ago

Now available by the same method as the counter:

If you notice anything weird on your map, such as the sea turning green, please let me know. :-)

Comments:

Idea

I could make it mark in red those countries that Kiva supports but which the lender hasn’t made loans to yet.

How about...

darker if you make more loans to a given country? I’m a big fan of loaning money to people in Mexico…

Oh, and here’s my map!

And my counter!

Good idea!

I’ll pick out some shades of green and try to get that working soon.

Suggestion...

...implemented. :-)

I think...

...I prefer all one color green. It’s more confusing now since there’s no explanation of what the colors mean, unless you wanted to put a “key” on the map.

Optional

The default is to use one shade of green. If you want the shaded version, you can use the following:

However, it will take up to 24 hours to reflect that change.

Very, very, cool!

I’ve saved the links, dwlt, and look forward to using them! Thank you!

My map!!!

Thanks so much, dwlt!

You rock, dwlt!

It looks great! And Mary’s suggestion sounds perfect as well.

I’ll be using it, so thanks in advance :)

Upgrade complete. :-)

Oops!

I received a “We’re sorry, but something went wrong. We’ve been notified about this issue and we’ll take a look at it shortly” message.

I tried to find the reason, and it seems like Pakistan is not covered among the eligible countries, but I just supported a loan there. Then again, I may be wrong! Feel free not to get to it shortly, though… I know you’re busy, and there is no rush, really. I will bug you later about it ;)

Unfortunately...

...Kiva only list the countries that they have partners in, which is what I support just now, rather than the countries they actually make loans in (which appears to be different). I suspect I’ll have to drop the markings to indicate what countries you haven’t loaned to for that reason.

Or alternatively...

...I just didn’t see it the first time. :-/

You should be able to generate your map now.

It does

work now. Thanks again :)

Little red x's

Your maps have turned into little red x’s. :(

Fixed

I was in the middle of making the maps better, but inadvertently left a bug.

As you can see, there are now 6 shades of green, with the darkest indicating your most popular loaned to countries. Unloaned countries are a slightly different shade of grey (every other colour I tried clashed terribly). Caching of images works better as well.

Or not.

:-(

Des is home again

Oh no

Now both the maps and the counters are little red x’s!

I don’t think my server likes having so many maps on one page. :-(

Des is home again

Probably not

I was going to ask whether or not you would be able to handle all the extra traffic.

My Map

I tried going out and doing it from your server, but I think your server is down or at least it’s not coming up for me. So I went and created my own map using another site.

Aw, crap. I forgot the robots went and added the logic to strip that kind of html from our entries. Thus, I saved and attached the image instead.

Yeah...

...generating the maps is more work than my poor wee server can handle, so I’ve disabled maps for now. Loan counters should still work, though.
