“Rapidly learn Mandarin – learn in 10 days or you don’t pay! 25 million satisfied incl FBI & CIA

The next ad said

“Learn Chinese (Mandarin) by the software that is used by NASA.”

I thought the first one sounded better, AND it rhymed, so that sealed it for me. I clicked the link.

It’s the Pimsleur audiobook system.

“How old were you when you ate your first cookie? Try not to laugh! Did you know what a cookie was before your first bite? Mommy or Daddy didn’t force you to memorize the ingredients before your first taste. But you sure knew how to ask for seconds! Pimsleur makes learning and speaking Mandarin just that easy.”

Now, I’m not quite sure what that means, something about cookies being like China. But it sounds pretty damn great.

I got the first few lessons from my local bookstore and am going to try it out…

Comments:

I assume it didn't work!

So did you learn Mandarin in 10 days?

Hells no

Yeah so it didn’t work. But I think that was more my problem than the course’s problem. I though I could just throw the whole lot onto my iPod and learn by osmosis while shopping, but no, you really need to devote 30m a day to sitting somewhere comfortably, alone, and doing the lesson (only one a day so your mind can keep up). I did OK for the first few, learned some basic phrases and sentence structure, but then lost interest. Need to be more regimented about the daily 30m next time (there will be a next time!).
