I joined band in the 4th grade, and I can seriously say that learning an instrument and participating in music is the best venture possible. Music is basically it’s own language, and just like learning Spanish helps you understand English better music helps you learn to better express yourself and intrepret the sounds around you. In a pragmatic sense it also helps with math because music is a lot of counting. If you’re asthmatic like me you can actually build up your lung capacity by learning a wind instrument, and I have the flute to thank for never having an asthma attack, even though my mother suffered them the entirety of her youth.
