The company I work for as my day job, has finally instituted mixed-paper recycling as opposed to just white paper recycling. This is a wonderful step.

The not-so-wonderful issue is, they don’t have bottle/can/plastic recycling available. Now, it’s not so much and issue for me at a personal level because I just carry home my cans and bottles.

However, at a company wide level, we have several cafeterias and many buildings that have vending machines and cantinas run by the employees, all of which have soda and water cans and bottles. The majority of these aren’t being recycled. I know the issue has been raised more than once, but there’s been a problem with implementation.

It becomes the responsibility of the one person within the building who’s willing to do the hard hauling of the recycling to a plant. This should be a corporate funded activity as opposed to a volunteer one.

Baby steps though right?
