12a. Darwin sunset.  — 11 months ago

January this year, a few days before I left Australia. Wet season sunsets aren’t quite as colourful as in the Dry season. This one was taken at Fannie Bay.

Yes, that’s right. Fannie Bay.

Gorgeous!

Wow, did that make it any harder to leave?

Technically...

I left Darwin in 1995 (moved to Melbourne, and had been based there since). But, until last month, my parents were still living there. It’s sad to think that I won’t be visiting there regularly anymore.

Even more than the sunsets, I miss the tropical storms. Stifling humidity builds up, and is then swept away by the cool winds and heavy rain. The thunder and lightening shows are simply spectacular… nature showing off in the most wonderful way.

One of the best nights

I ever spent in a hotel was in Darwin. I had a room on the 8th floor and lay on my bed watching the lightning flash over the city. It was definitely the most spectacular lightning I have ever seen.

Thanks!

Had to make a special trip to get these pics… most nights leading up to this, we’d had storms roll in before the sun had a chance to set.
