Travel to Saudi Arabia
Unholy hell 2 years ago

Woken up at 4:30 every single morning as prayers are being blared through loudspeakers all over the city. Had to put up with ridiculous amounts of anti-American and anti-Christian propaganda everywhere we went. TVs in the mall declaring that God could not have a son, large men in the visitors bureau offering us $15,000 to convert to Islam. You can go to jail just for having a beer or a piece of bacon in your possession. Constant offers to watch people receive “justice”, i.e. watch people get hands cut off, etc. They bring over ‘indentured servants’ mostly from the Philippines but never release them from contract so they are all really slaves. One of the girls in our group was attacked by the self-appointed religious police (I forget what they call them) for not covering enough of something and they were trying to take her away somewhere. Fortunately, there were more of us than them and they decided not to use the UZIs they were carrying. Rampant public homosexuality (against their own religion) and we watched as several women were beaten in public. Once, there were two Mercedes pulled over and the driver of one went to the trunk and pulled out a whip. We had to leave when he started hitting her because one of the guys wanted to stop it but we didn’t want to have some kind of international incident on our hands. These people are so backwards in their thinking that if you gave them the most advanced weapon on the face of the planet, they would probably just use it as a club. Hands down one of the scariest and worst places on planet earth.

Free the women and slaves and nuke the place!

Comments:

go nuke yourself. you broke several of their laws and youre not recognizing that every country has different customs. and you could go to jail for bringing beer or pork over the border not for having it in the countries (just go to one of the embassies and they have tons of this stuff). and you really need to work on your currency conversion. they really are only offering about 2500 usd but thats about 10000 riyals. I live here (I’m american) and I think you’ve misjudged this country. and the religous police are not self appointed they are government employees called muttawwa and they are not as bad as you say. you probably just made a big scene and should have been kicked out of the country anyway.

WHAT?!

You like it so much, stay there freak! I notice all you can argue are technicalities anyway. Minor variation on a theme when the real story is, the place Sucks, with a capital s. Their religion sucks so bad they have to PAY people to convert! 100+ temperatures and the humidity and quality of the air near the gulf are such that you can step out of the shower and immediately feel like you could scrape enough oil off your skin to change out what’s in your car! It’s five times worse than Galveston! The people can seem friendly, but they’re just so BACKWARD! One guy in the mall wouldn’t let us take a picture in his shop until he left the room because he thought we could use our camera to steal his soul!!! And that’s in one of their major cities. Imagine what the country folk believe!

islam has been the state religion since saudi was founded as a country since their king was muslim. plus saudi arabia is home to possibly the two holiest places in the islamic religion mecca and medinah so of course islam is going to be mainstream. all religions are different. so some will offer things for people to convert. For example in the U.S. if you converted to Judaism you would be given a document that if you moved to Israel would turn into citizenship of that country. I lived in Arizona before moving here because of my Dads job and the temperatures about the same. And its the middle east (one big desert) so of course its going to be dusty thats just a fact of life. I live in Riyadh the capitol and things have changed a lot since you’ve been here. for one thing they do not whip people unless they are convicted of a crime on a certain level. Why are you calling me a freak when you are a fellow american citizen. I thought we were supposed to be open minded since the U.S. is a country of immigrants started as colonies by countries such as france and england. Yes there is a bit of culture shock since they are heading towards being a fully westernized country. The younger generation of saudis are growing up in a developing country. heck about 120 years ago we were at where saudi is now in development rate. And they’ve come this far in about 30 years. In the 70’s they were still riding camels and they werent as developed as they were today. Not all people like having their pictures taken. Part of it has to do with their culture and belief in Islam. However thats changing in the younger generation and a lot of things are going to change in coming years.
